Corno del Renon (Rittner Horn) to Croce di Lazfons (Latzfonser Kreuz) Corno del Renon (Rittner Horn) offers not only spectacular views but also a 12-kilometre, fascinating hike through varied alpine pastureland, set against the jagged blue backdrop of the Dolomites.
Ascent: First take the bus from Bolzano (Bozen) via Klobenstein to Pemmern on Renon (Ritten) at 1,538 m. From there, you can take the cabin lift (walking 1.5 hours) up to Schwarzseespitze Peak (2,070 m; restaurant). From there, take the wide path that leads to Unterhornhaus (2,044 m; restaurant) and it’s a moderately steep grade across grassy slopes up to the Rifugio Corno del Renon (Rittner-Horn-Haus) mountain hut, at the top of Corno del Renon (2,260 metres, mountain hut open in summer); a good hour from Schwarzseespitze Peak; lodging available. High Trail: From the Rifugio Corno del Renon mountain hut, take Trail 1/3/7 northwest, down a bit to meadows and then onto a wide path across the flat alpine pastureland of the knoll of Sattelberg Mountain (2,160 m) to the broad Gasteiger Saddle at 2,057 m; you can opt to turn right, down to Villandro (Villanders) on Trail No. 7.
