Every second Sunday in September, the Eggental in South Tyrol invites you to the traditional Schupfen hike. On a leisurely circular hike, guests explore the beautiful Rosengarten panorama and stop at nine Schupfen, each of which offers a particular South Tyrolean speciality.

Spanferkel, polenta and Speckknödel delight hearty gourmets, strudel, Strauben and Kaiserschmarren the sweetest. In addition, there s a presentation of traditional handicrafts at every alpine pasture. At the Tschandlschupf, grain threshing is explained, at the Wuhnschupf basket weaving is demonstrated and at the Hosnschupf grass is cut with a scythe. The Schupfen hike starts at 10.00 a.m. with a mountain mass, after which the hike continues until nightfall. Various folk music and dance groups will perform at the Schupfen, and there will also be various games.   The nine Schupfen: Tschandlschupf Wuhnschupf Unterpoppener Untergötschl Greatlschupf Kundlschupf Hosnschupf Kardaunerschupf Kohlerschupf

“They take pictures of the mountain climbers at the top of the mountain. They don’t take pictures along the way cause who wants to remember the relentless climb, the pain and anguish of taking it to the next level – nobody takes pictures of that, nobody wants to remember. We just want to remember the view from the top, the breathtaking moment at the edge of the world. That’s what keeps us climbing and it’s worth the pain, that’s the crazy part. It’s worth anything.“ – Anonymous
