Turn-by-turn directions
You cross the road and do not follow the forest road straight ahead, but the one that leads down to the left. This forest road takes you past a feeding place. Follow the forest road along the slope to the east, turn right after some time onto a meadow path, which takes you to a short, very steep uphill passage at a constant altitude. Via this you reach the ridge that leads from the Samalm.
On the forest road a few meters left to a crossroads. Here you turn right onto the hiking trail towards "Krimml". The path is partly steep downhill until you reach a forest road, which leads you further downhill to a small asphalt road. Continue your hike in the same direction downhill over the road to houses. At the end of the houses, a hiking trail leads to the left towards "Falkenstein". In a slight uphill and downhill you always choose the largest of the forest paths and reach a small asphalt road, which soon brings you to a crossroads at a small parking lot just before the Pension Falkenstein. Now you choose the lowest of the two paths that lead downhill and turn left (path no. 15 "Wald im Pinzgau/Vorderkrimml").
This very beautiful hiking trail leads you straight through the forest down to houses. Continue on a road in the same direction and turn left onto a hiking trail towards "Wald im Pinzgau" (No. 15). Over a bridge to another asphalt road at a bend. Here you hike left along the asphalt road uphill to the first bend, turn right there past the farm via the meadow path up to the edge of the forest and from there always slightly uphill along the forest path to the small bridge. Turn right there, past the farm to the old Gerlosstraße, a short distance downhill along the road and after about 100 metres turn left onto the forest path and walk steeply uphill along the meadow path to the goods road. Turn right and walk along the asphalt road to the highest farm. Through the farm to a meadow path starting there. Up across the meadow into the forest and to a fork in the path. You choose the higher path in direction "Ederbauer/Gernkogel", after 2 ditches you climb very steeply and reach a gravel road just above the Ederbauer. Go down this road, pass the Ederbauer and in a sharp right turn straight ahead on a hiking trail. Follow the path first uphill and later steeply down to an iron bridge that leads over the Trattenbachschlucht (gorge). Continue along the hiking trail up to a gravel road (here the alternative route described here meets the main route over the Kröndlhorn) and then down the valley to the Alpengasthof Rechtegg, your today’s stage destination. (If you do not stay overnight at the Alpengasthof Rechtegg, but in Neukirchen, a shuttle will bring you from here to your accommodation in Neukirchen.)
