Turn-by-turn directions

The first section of the alternative route over the Plattenkogel to the Breitscharte is the same as the main route of the Panorama Trail: From the Alpengasthof Filzstein you walk up the asphalt road for a few meters to a transverse asphalt road. Cross the asphalt road and follow the ski slope at the signpost "Plattenkogel" - crossing a gravel road a few times - up to the uppermost visible lift station just below the Plattenkogel (2.039 m), which you ascend in a slight left curve.

You cross the summit, pass the summit station of the Plattenkogel-Express on your left and follow the very beautiful hiking trail down a ridge. At a fork, take the left path, climb up a few meters and then descend to the Breitscharte (1.925 m).

Here you leave the main route of the Hohe Tauern Panorama Trail and choose the gravel road on the right down to the Gletscherblickalm. Pass this pasture - you can have a good snack in the serviced hut - and follow the biggest gravel road downhill to the houses of the Gerlosplatte (1.697 m).

Turn left along the road and pass between Intersport and the accommodation "Stadlloft". After 50 m, turn right and cross the meadow for a short distance downhill to a meadow path (approximately at the level of the lowest houses of the Stadlloft). Follow the meadow path downhill towards the Durlaßboden storage facility - at the end of your descent along the hiking trail you will reach an asphalt road which you follow to the right (from here you are back on the main route of the Hohe Tauern Panorama Trail). Pass the valley station of the Plattenkogel-Express to the old Gerlospass road and cross it.

Now the last part of your today's hike begins: Right on the other side of the road a hiking trail starts, which brings you to a small asphalt road. You follow that road to the left until you reach another road. 100 m up the road on the right and you will reach your destination in the center of Königsleiten (1.567 m).
