Along ancient roads
Take the chair-lift as far as Tyrol and then set off on this easy hike to the Muthöfe mountain huts. As this is an easy hike it's also suitable for families with children.

From Tyrol (route from Merano) to the cable car (690 m). At Hochmut (1,361 m, hotel) follow the signs to «Dorf Tirol» (route 24 and then 23) going down the ancient footpath, which is at times steep, from mountain hut to mountain hut through the meadows as far as the Talbauer (1,209 m, where you can stop for refreshments) and past other mountain huts as far as the woods (take no notice of other paths leading off to the right). You have to zigzag down the steep wooded slope to the Tiroler Kreuz (806 m); finally you cross the footpath above the main road (signposted «Waldweg nach Tirol»), which takes you back to the cable car.
