Very individual hike in a low frequented border area through South Tyrol and Trentino. Discovering completely new prospects from german speaking Deutschnonsberg until the italian speaking Val di Non. Along the ancient border oft he linguistic groups this trail offers much diversification and nature experience. This light tour is leading continnually down without much difference of altitude, alltough not very short. The panoramic views to the mountain communities of St. Felix, Tret an d Fondo are awesome. In the further course we enjoy other amazing views over the whole Val di Non with the mountains of the Brenta Dolomites in the background. After 3-4 hours you will arrive at Maso Plaz where you find an excellent lunch. The tour is planned as one direction tour. For return trip you can be carried by shuttle service or until 4 persons with the Maso Plaz electric car.

Author’s recommendation

If you start early enough, you will arrive at Maso Plaz just for dinner. There you will find a rhich meal and after you can relax by the lavender field. I f you come on afternoon, you can get abundant cold cuts with delicious specialities from the own farm and home made bread. In each case we will arrange to bring you back to your starting point. This tour can be started directly from the parking area Gampenpass (Passo Palade) or from the centre of „Unsere liebe Frau im Walde (Senale)“. We follow the indications „Rankipino“, a recently buildet path for walker and biker. Please let you navigate by the outdooractive app. After „Unsere liebe Frau im Walde (Senale)“ we descend down the mill valley where we meet the young river Novella, afterward we walk through dense forests and clear meadows, passing by a huge moor until the alpine hut „Regole di Castelfondo“. Follow alway´s „Rankipino-Mostizzolo“ and „Maso Plaz“. We have to walk a route on the street until Carnalez, where we get again in a wood trail leading directly to Maso Plaz.

The starting points of this tour can easily be reached by bus. Please take the bus-line „Merano-Fondo-Merano“ and get the bus stop „Gampenpass (Passo Palade)“ or „Senale“. The current schedule you can find on Google.

Getting there

By car from Merano take the „Gampenpass road“ until Gampenpass Passo Palade.

From Bolzano take the Mendelpass until Gampenpass.

Equipment

This is a medium long hike, so it is necessary to take good shoes. It doesn´t need heavy shoes for high mountains, but light and comfortable trekking shoes. It is also recommandable to take a rain protection with you.
