The mountain between Villabassa, Dobbiaco and Braies

From Villabassa (1159 m) follow markings 15 / 27 on the road leading to the former Bad Maistatt southeast to the Graubach, turn right there and follow markings 15 on a wide forest path through the wooded Grautal (Putzgraben) southeast to the Putzalm (1743 m; bar; from Villabassa 2 hours). From there take trail 16 through variously wooded slopes up to a fork, turn right to another fork and take the gradually rockier but not difficult trail 33 up to the Sarlkofel west ridge not far from the Sarlsattel (2229 m). Now turn left on trail 33 for a good stretch across the steep, partly grassy, partly rocky slope (a few somewhat exposed, but not difficult rocky sections are secured with ropes) and finally on the trail up over steep grassy slopes to the summit cross (2378 m; from Putzalm a good 2 hours). Descent: shortest via the described ascent path (2:30 hrs) .
