The Vahrner See is somewhat hidden in a small forest and meadow valley.

From the Neustift Eisack bridge (wooden bridge at the Brückenwirt, 594 m) always following the M 1 on the west side of the Eisack, slightly ascending through open slopes to a wayside shrine, later through the forest to a residential building next to the army ammunition depot (approx. 700 m); there cross the Brenner road and then on a narrow little road slightly downhill to the lake (678 m; not far from it two inns); from Neustift a good 1:00 hrs. Return: From the Am See inn on a largely unmarked but good path briefly uphill and then on a level crossing of the forest and meadow slopes southwards to Vahrner Oberdorf (approx. 700 m); between the houses (M 0) and across a meadow to a railway and motorway subway, then cross the state road (signpost), continue again through meadows and finally on a wide path briefly downhill to the starting point.
