Salten: Scenic beauty and diversity on the San Genesio (Jenesien) Plateau

From San Genesio (Jenesien) at 1,087 metres, driving or via cable car  from Bolzano (Bozen), follow the trail marked T, past the Sonnenparadies and Tschöggelberger Hof taverns. Until Gruemmenbach, the road is paved. Turn left and keep following the trail, still marked T, leading up the hill and north through pastures and forests to the mountain farms of Ausserpircher, Herwarter and Willele. The trail  heads towards a creek and continues to rise to Tomanegger Hof Tavern (1,328 m). Total walking time up to this point is approximately 1 1/2 h. After Tomanegger Hof, the trails leads across slopes covered with patches of larch forest to the high plain of the Salten Rim and eventually merges with broader Trail No. 1 (~1,460 m). Turn left for a beautifully scenic walk southbound to Edelweiss Tavern (1,350 m). Return to San Genesio via the access road; experienced hikers can also take the steeper trail marked E.
