Elzenbaum and Reifenstein Castle
Hike in the southern Sterzinger Moos; the picture is dominated by two medieval castles.
From Stilfes (962 m; road branching off here in Freienfeld) follow the signs to "Elzenbaum" on the wide trail 20 B almost level across the slightly hilly meadowland northwards to a small wood (wayside cross), briefly down to the Weihern double farmstead and now through the meadows on the valley floor northwards (always a wide trail, partly lined with wooden fences) to the hamlet of Elzenbaum (975 m; refreshments available in the Senftenburg). Now turn right on the narrow road, slightly downhill to the eastern foot of the Reifenstein castle rock and up to the castle (980 m) in a few minutes on the serpentine path. From Stilfes just under 1:30 hrs. – The return is best done on the described path in a similar walking time.
