The tour starts at the car park on the Klausenpass pass. Pass the Clariden restaurant and follow the signpost in the direction of Chamerstock. At the beginning, the trail is rather steep and requires a bit of fitness. The view of the Glatten, the surrounding mountains and the imposing Clariden, however, makes you forget all the effort. After a while you reach an impressive stone wall. Over tons of gravel, lush meadows and several small streams, the path leads rather flatly downhill to Gemsfairenhüttli (1951m). Now you find yourself on a huge, open area. A stony stream bed runs through the lush green meadow. Now the path gradually becomes steeper again. After a few metres of altitude, you reach the actual high trail. From here, the very good and almost stoneless path runs mainly at the same altitude until you reach the Fiseten Pass. Now you are directly above the mountain station of the Urnerboden-Fisetengrat cable car. The route continues over the Fiseten ridge with gentle ups and downs and a breathtaking view of mighty mountains. Now you have made it!  Arrived at the Chamerstock viewpoint you can see into Linthal and over to Braunwald on the left. Follow the same path back to the top station. The post bus will take you back to the Klausen Pass within a few minutes.

The Clariden Höhenweg. The epitome of a hike in the mountains. Only a few metres of altitude to conquer, a breathtaking backdrop and all the more enjoyment. A wonderful experience for the whole family.

Author’s recommendation

  • Good footwear is strongly recommended.
  • In late summer you hike for quite a long time in the shade of the Clariden.
  • Please note the Postbus timetable. Depending on the season, there are only isolated connections.
  • Please note  opening times of the mountain railways: https://urnerboden.ch/seilbahn/
  • There are many water points along the way in the form of mountain streams
  • .
  • There is one ravine that has been secured with chains and irons. - However, even children should be able to negotiate this without any problems.
  •  Get to the Urnerboden valley station comfortably by mountain railway.

Tips and hints

The Clariden Hiking Trail is well signposted and marked as a mountain hiking trail in white/red/white. In the firn band, depending on snow conditions (approx. mid-June), a bridge must be installed in the early summer or removed in the autumn. You can reach the Klausen Pass with the Flüelen - Linthal post bus line (mid-June to mid-September, timetable subject to change due to weather conditions).
