Prominent peaks in the eastern part of the Texel Mountains

Start at the small cluster of farms known as Christl at 1,132 m; tavern; approach is via the farm road from San Leonardo (St. Leonhard) passing the hamlet of Breiteben. Follow Trail No. 3, mostly through forest, up to the Waalerhütte on the Matatzwaal irrigation channel (about 1,550 m; tavern) and then continue along Trail No. 3 in the woods, up to the fork (Trail No. 3 on the right goes towards Kolbenspitze Peak). Turn left at the fork, then go straight following Trail No. 7, up to a grassy knoll (1,825 m, slightly below Kuntneralm), continue along a grassy crest towards Hahnl, another knoll (1,999 m), and after a final flat stretch, on the rocky north ridge along the trail, which isn’t too difficult, to the summit of Matatzspitze Peak (2,179 m; 3 to 3.5 hours from Christl). Descent from Matatzspitze Peak: the trail of ascent (2 to 2.5 hours) is recommended, but there are longer versions: from the foot of the north ridge on the west side, down to Ulfaser Alm and along the long
