The church of the Saint Barbara is located above the “Bastione” and well visible from Riva. It was constructed during the time when the power plant and the corresponding tubes were built in 1935 to honour the patron of the miners. The tubes pump the water from the Lake Ledro to the power plant and the generators.
Starting point of the path 404 to the church is the Via Monte Oro in Riva. From this point you walk to the tower (approx. 220 m) and then along a dirt road. The path is signed well and you can enjoy the beautiful view. From the tower you walk for approx. 1 h and 15 minutes through a forest to get to the Capanna S. Barbara and from this point you walk for another 15 minutes to get to the church itself. Via the path 404/bis you can continue to get to the via ferrata “Ferrata dell’Amicizia” which you should only tackle with sufficient climbing gear.
To get back you can either follow the path you had just covered or you can continue past the church and via the path 405 that brings you from Bocca d’Enzima to Riva del Garda. To surmount the security installations and the metal ladders you should bring climbing gear for this part of the path.
