This stage goes through a mostly flat terraino. Starting from Merano hut (1,960 m) follow marker no. 4 and walk along a ridge, through flowering alpine meadows to the Maiser Rast, and then climb on the Giogo della Croce (the highest peak of the ridge). Continuing southward, the European path (E5) leads slightly downhill to the Giogo dei Prati. It is worth making a trip to the scenic spot 'Stoanerne Mandln' -this hill, located high above Sarentino, offers breathtaking views on a wide range of South Tyrolean mountains. Following the E5 signs you will walk near the Möltner Kaser hut and through the Jöchlwald woods down to Mount Melton (1733 m). Later you will cross the Rindlwiesen meadows - pastures in the middle of larch clearings - and near the parking lot (Schermoos). Carry on to Lavenna meadows. From here climb on the Lavenna hill (1,527 m), the highest point of Salto.
