Upper Val di Non cycle path

If you’re coming from the South, the cycle path starts at the town of Malgolo (hamlet of Romeno): there is a convenient interchange car park here, where you can leave your car and continue on your bicycle.

Along the main urban provincial road, you will reach the first section of the new cycle path that runs alongside the SS43 state road, following the old route of the “Trento - Malè” railway. A light and constant climb will take you to the meadows downstream of Romeno and the wooden bridge that overlooks the state road and serves as a junction for the cycle path loop.

Continue on the right and cross an area shaded by the woods to reach the small and sunny hamlet of Salter. The cycle path crosses the town centre and takes you along urban and inter-estate roads to reach the nearby town of Romeno. Here the path leads to the characteristic church of S. Antonio, which is well worth a stop to admire the beautiful cycle of frescoes dedicated to the “Leggenda dell’Impiccato” (Legend of the Hanged Man). The path continues through apple orchards and reaches the fields at the entrance to Cavareno. From here, thanks to an extension of the cycle path, you can reach the towns of Amblar and Don, where two further small circuits start along technically more challenging gravel roads.

If instead you carry on cycling along the official path, you will cross a series of meadows and reach the “Tennis Halle” sports centre in Cavareno and the historic centre of town. Once you have left Cavareno, you will find yourselves surrounded by green again. Then cycle through the towns of Sarnonico, Ronzone and Malosco. From Malosco, the path descends for a short steep section and then reaches the nearby town of Fondo, which is famous for its route through the rock canyons. Now begins one of the most characteristic sections of the itinerary, that of the lush green landscape of the Pradiei area, a beautiful untouched expanse where, among other things, you will also find the “Dolomiti Golf Club”, one of the most popular golf courses in Trentino and the brand new Bicigrill. The cycle path now continues through the mostly flat meadows until you return to Romeno and the bridge mentioned earlier over the state road that closes the entire loop. Once across the bridge, continue downhill to the nearby centre of Malgolo to return to the interchange car park.
