Piz Starlex Alpine skiing
From the solitary valle d'Avigna passing the Piz Starlex alpine hut in the Upper Val Venosta
The main road to “Stierbergalm” starts below the Mangitsalm. We will follow this route for about 1.25 km to the first clearing on the left side (1⁄2 hour). We will walk up to the Rifugio Stierberg, 2,176 m, and then turn left to go up through a hollow and to a plain, 2,360 m. We will continue the ascent towards Starlex. At 2,520 m we will walk up to the ridge. The ascent reaches 2,770 m, and continues to the left below boulders and a small peak, and becomes steeper to reach the so-called “Gurgl” 2,930 m. We leave our skis here. We now have two possibilities: a) we can walk up the steep, rocky path to the right reaching the flat summit (this route is at risk of avalanches) or b) we walk up the passageway on the left after which we walk up a short steep slope that leads to the flat summit (this route is dangerous in windy and snowy conditions). Descent via the same route.
