Monte Alto (Hoher Mann)
Tappeiner Verlag
Easy hike in the Val Casies, ideal in winter
Ascent: We go back up the track on the left. From here we go up a forest track (sledge run) to the left, all the way to an alpine hut (1,900 m). Then we go on through some woods, either on the right or the left-hand side of the stream, until we come out of the woods. Here, at 2,000 m, you’ll get an all-round view from the Monte Quaira (Fellhorn) on the left to the Monte Alto (Hoher Mann) straight ahead. We now reach the pass on the left-hand side and then arrive at the summit from the rear to the right of us. Alternatively, we can go back up gentle ups and downs until we reach the pass on the right (2,500 m); from here, leaving our skis, heading to the left, we arrive at the summit after 20 minutes along a beautiful ridge. The Monte Quaira (2,518 m) is just as easy to reach. To reach the top we arrive opposite the left-hand pass and from here we go up to the left towards the summit through a slight hollow. Descent: via the same route.
