Bike + ski tour + climbing combination, by bike to the Giebelhaus, ski tour to the Kesselspitze, descent and crossing to the south to the Madonna east face, great climbing (2 pitches) in excellent rock, 1st pitch must be secured by yourself, 2nd pitch is good secured with bolts
This route is perfect for climbing ski mountaineers for whom the descent is not in the foreground and who have nothing against a significantly heavier backpack. Perhaps not immediately understandable for the few climbing meters, but you will be rewarded on site with loneliness and a rock that is great for Allgäu conditions. The climbing leads over 2 pitches along the edge, which is steeped in the second pitch and offers technically demanding and small-grip climbing. The first ascent was in 1934 by Wechs and Trödle. If you still have enough time, you should attach the 2 pitches of the Madonna east face (1st pitch VI+, 2nd pitch VII-) immediately afterwards, then the hauling is even more worthwhile. After abseiling you cross over to the Balkenscharte. Briefly apply your ski skins again before driving back to the Giebelhaus via the Prinz-Luitpold-Haus. From there it goes back to Hinterstein by bike.
The aim of the Outdooractive Climbing site is to bring you professional climbing content of the highest quality alongside all the information you could need for your climbing holiday or when tackling your next route. In addition to a wide variety of multi-pitch routes, we will also be featuring sport climbing areas in greater detail in the near future.
