Beautiful and classic journey in a charming setting. The only section that requires attention is the first part of the descent from Passo dei Garofani, because of the possibility of wind accumulation.

Ascent: take the forest road as far as Lago Erdemolo, then at the junction at the hairpin bend follow the signs for Passo Palù (on the left). After a few hundred metres, summer path no. 370 branches off to the right: follow it to the upper limit of vegetation (1900 m), then continue along the valley floor; go around a rocky bastion on the left and later cross Passo Palù (2072 m). From the fork, follow the ridge to Passo dei Garofani, and with a final, more exposed section, reach the summit. Descent: Follow the last metres of the climb to Passo dei Garofani. Instead of descending directly south (downwind slope often affected by wind accumulations), head west towards M. Stanga. This leads to a saddle that gives access to a less steep and generally safer slope: from here, head along the sunny slopes that descend into Val del Laner, with the possibility of making a short detour to Rif. sette Selle. For the lower part of the descent, see ascent route no. 4 (summer route no. 4).
