White ball from the Oberetteshütte
The White Sphere, Palla Bianca in Italian, lies in the southern part of the Ötztal Alps on the Austrian-Italian border. The name Weißkugel suggests that it is a glaciated mountain. All routes to the Weißkugel lead over glaciers. The easiest ascent to the summit is via the southern ridge. This can be reached either from the Oberetteshütte or the Rifugio Bella Vista, both located in Südtirol. The far above-average hospitality at the Oberetteshütte is an argument in favour of this hut as the starting point for the ascent of the Weißkugel.
