Trekking on the highest mountain of the Aurina Valley

From Brunico along the entire Valle Aurina to the car park in Kasern (Casere, 1,595 m). Route 11 takes you eastwards to the Röttal Valley, through the ruins of quarries and the Rötalm alpine hut (2,116 m). An overnight stay at the Rifugio Lenkjöchl-Giogo Lungo (2,590m, 3 hours) is a must. Descending down route 12 B into the Windtal Valley the rocky and sometimes snowy trail is facilitated by the use of ropes to the Hinteres Umbaltörl Pass (2,849m).  Heading north-west along the steep and rocky trail bordered by stone figures to reach the glacier (Althauskees). From here the trail is smoother, but you must look out for falling rocks on the way to the last peak visible from the mountain pass. A steep giant glacier can be viewed from here, overhanging in parts.  Beyond the shoulder, the trail continues on the glacier and takes you to the highest summits and to the top of the Three Men Peak. (3,499m; 5 hours from the Rifugio). Return via the same route. Or descend directly to the Windtal
