Smoky Mountain
Magnificent mountain above Prettau in the Ahrntal valley; the name of the mountain comes from its "rough" appearance.
In Prettau (1475 m) follow the signs to "Waldnersee" and trail marker 16 B through meadows up to the forest, east of the Wieserbach at the signpost "Waldneralm" leave the forest road on the old footpath through the forest straight up to the alpine pastures, on the crossing forest road (trail marker 16 A) left up to the Waldneralm (bar, 2068 m) and on trail 16 B over a free mountain ridge up to the Waldnersee (2338 m; from Prettau 2:30 hours).). From there, across mountain grass and boulders, up pathlessly to the crossing Lausitzer Höhenweg and briefly eastwards to the Jöchl behind the Sauwipfel (2643 m), now following the signpost "Rauchkofel" along the steep ridge on the marked serpentine trail, partly laid out with stone slabs, up to the striking south spur (2976 m), here left (follow the arrow and markings!).) briefly down to a large basin and on the steep south-western flank of the mountain, following the markings, partly on tracks, partly pathless over granite rubble and boulders
