Distinctive summit and steep ridge Granite wall dominating the Valle di Anterselva
From Campo Tures - Sand in Taufers take the road to Rein (Riva di Tures) up to the sawmill (1,525 m, car park). We climb up the Gelttal Valley on route 3 (towards «Rieserfernerhütte») through woods, meadows, then scree up to the Rifugio Rieserfernerhütte-Vedrette di Ries (2,800 m, 3:30 hours at least; overnight stay recommended). A zigzag signposted pathway on rubble and boulders continues northwards. Leaving the track to Fernerlköpfl we take a right turn to the ridge (approx 3,230 m). Quickly descending to the glacier, keeping an eye out for crevasses we walk around the right side of the Frauenköpfl peak and ascend on ice and then rock up to the summit (3,273 m; 2 hours from the refuge). Return via the same route.
