Distance 10.2 km
The high mountain landscape of Solda is dominated by the three magnificent Ortles peaks, Zebrù and Gran Zebrù to the south-west, but there are also superb peaks to the north-east which overlook the Zay valley, of which the Cima Vertana is the highest in the Lasa mountain range
Take the «Kanzel» ski lift at Santa Gertrude - Sankt Gertraud a Solda - Sulden (1,844 m); from the upper terminal (2,348 m, restaurant) follow route 12 across meadows, and then take route 13 at the intersection eastwards going up the moraine until you reach the ice tongue of the Rosim glacier (2,900 m). The track continues on a steep upwards slope of gravel and rocks bordered by stone figures. At 3,200 metres turn left heading towards a shoulder to cross a snow-filled hollow valley (if icy walk around it). From the base of the steep summit (3,400m approx) you can reach the cross (3,545 m, 3:30 hours from the ski lift) either walking on the terraces or on the boulders along the west ridge. Return via the same route.
