The main towns along the 34.7 km of the Rio Gadèra are Corvara, San Martino in Badia, Longega, and the hamlet of Pieve di Marebbe. The river is mainly named after Lois Craffonara, a linguist and researcher who was a native of Alto Adige, and refers to the Latin word “square”: which is what the Romans called all settlements that were square shaped.
Countless are the names given to the main tributary of the Rienza River in Alto Adige. Rio Gadera, Rio Fontana, Rio di Badia. Depending on which section you refer to the river changes name.
