Informationen zu The parish church St. Nikolaus
The Gothic construction stile with the three church aisles is consecrated to the holy Nikolaus, patron of the merchants, of the sailors, of the businessman and of the children.
The southern exterior facade is decorated beautifully. The entrances impress with the large fresco of Christophorus and the blessing statue of Nikolaus. The tall and colourful Gothic windows give room for the light that falls mysteriously onto the numerous paintings, the images on the altar, the statues and the woodcarvings. Two artistically carved wooden altars are to be admired in the aisles to the side. The one to the right was made by Trenkwalder in 1892 and the one to the left is probably from the valley Vinschgau during the 15th century.
The church was restored in 1785 and some of the original elements were changed drastically.
The largest church of Meran is the parish church St. Nikolaus, built in the early 14th century and finalised in the second half of the 15th century.
