Informationen zu The Holy Ghost Church in Meran
The church was built by Meinhard II in 1271 as a hospital church and it was consecrated to the Holy Ghost. In a flooding of the Passer of 1419, the church was almost entirely destroyed and rebuilt by Sigmund von Österreich.
Precious wooden statues and frescos from the 14th and 15th century can be found in the three-aisled Holy Ghost church. Especially important is the gothic altar-aisle and the depicted episodes of the life of Christ, made by the sculptor Jörg Lederer.
The gothic Holy Ghost church is located only a few metres from the bridge Postbrücke in Meran. Filigree masonries on the entrance depict the Holy Trinity and the Holy Ghost.
