Technical Monuments in South Tyrol

South Tyrol's technological monuments bear witness to our advances – astonishing, fascinating and often downright adventurous. South Tyrol's first power station at Töll near Merano was connected to the grid in 1898. In 1907, the state-of-the-art electric cog railway began operating from Bolzano to Klobenstein, followed in 1908 by the first passenger cable car in the world on the Kohlern mountain by Bolzano. Tourists can also experience the Lasa 'marble railway' in the Vinschgau valley, one of the last remaining original works from the company Adolf Bleichert & Co.
