Culture in South Tyrol
Farming, ploughing, caring for the land – South Tyrol's culture owes much to its agricultural roots. It's there to see in the architecture of the farmhouses, manors and churches throughout the region. In valleys and towns where two cultures meet you'll find the chic alongside the traditional and gothic façades rubbing shoulders with renaissance palazzos. Village chapels with baroque altars are surrounded by Roman walls. Castles and palaces look down on walkers from mountain slopes. With the railways came modernity, new ideas and demands, new theatres and museums, controversial buildings and technological achievements. South Tyrol's culture is highly varied, rooted in tradition and striving towards the future.
