Classic hike in the vicinity of Collalto, ideal in winter and spring.

After the bridge we go up through a meadow from where, on the right-hand side, a track begins. We follow it for about half an hour all the way to the end, near a cross (1,800 m). We take route no. 8, which runs through the wood and up a steep slope to an altitude of about 2,100 m. We continue on the left on an open plateau. After a small bridge to the left, at 2,121 m, the path takes us to the Rifugio Roma (2,276 m, approx. 2 hours from the car park). We go past the low summit directly above the rifugio, and go left up to the shrine. We go up the Monte Covoni valley (Tristennöckl) to a plateau. We continue left along a mound and up some gentle steps, going past a rain gauge until we reach the left edge of the glacier. We go straight ahead heading south, then south-west until we arrive below the eastern crest of the Monte Magro (Magerstein). We go diagonally right up to the foot of the rugged peaks. We veer right to reach the summit.
via the same route. In safe snow conditions we can go down directly to the Monte Covoni (Tristennöckl) along the glacier (keeping an eye out for crevasses!)

Alternative descent into the valley: we go down directly to the alpine hut and then continue to the cable car cables. Where these disappear behind a corner, we turn right at the gate and go down diagonally as far as a steep clearing leading to the valley. We go down the track and then through the woods until we reach the car park.
