The Bastille is a fortress dating from the 19th century, located at the north of Grenoble on a hill

The buildings preceding the Bastille dated from the 15th to the 18th century. The fortress which was built on the outernmost tip of Mont Rachais, served to observe and defend the valleys of Isère and Drac. You can get to the fortress via the “Route de la Bastille“ by car or by the via ferrata, a hiking trail or by cable car. Nowadays, in this area you can also find the museum of the troops “Musée des troupes de la montagne“ and an art exhibition.

From the fortress you can enjoy breathtaking views of Grenoble and the surrounding hills. The rooms of the building can be hired for events and parties.

There‘s also a tourist information, a souvenir shop, a restaurant and a so-called “acrobastille“ allowing you to discover Fort de la Bastille in an acrobatic way. In summer time, the fortress hosts several events such as art exhibitions, concerts, dance parties, guided tours and opera evenings.
