A crevice between the two nature parks in the Sesto Dolomites and Fanes-Sennes-Braies: Lake Dobbiaco
Created by recurring landslides over the centuries, this reservoir was once hidden from view. Today it has become an alpine lake resort. The fairy-tale backdrop of the Dolomites and the lush conifer woods will make you forget that this was a scene of heavy fighting and a continuous front throughout the Second World War. In 1939, Mussolini ordered the construction of five bunkers all around Lake Dobbiaco, in order to reinforce the defensive positions of the “Vallo delle Alpi”.
