Walser settlement Sankt Martin

Several hundred years ago, the free Walsers lived in the Calfeisen valley. Today, the former Walser settlement of Sankt Martin is a popular excursion destination and starting point for hikes into the UNESCO World Heritage Tectonic Arena Sardona.
In the middle of the Calfeisen valley, nestled in a picturesque landscape, lies peacefully the former Walser settlement of Sankt Martin. It is as if time has stood still here and you feel as if you are in an open-air museum: small wooden houses, a water mill, gravel paths, flower pots, a small chapel and a restaurant with fresh bread from the wood-fired oven - the charm and romance of this little village alone are worth a visit. Just the journey over the mighty wall of the Gigerwald reservoir and along its banks is an experience in itself. While at the reservoir the rock walls rise steeply into the air, the Calfeisen valley becomes more open again behind Sankt Martin. The end of the Calfeisen valley is marked by Piz Sardona, the name giver of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Tectonic Arena Sardona.
