One of the most original and renowned castles of the bassa Valle Isarco. Preserved in an exemplary way and renovated, since 1981 it has been the official headquarters of the “istituto dei Castelli dell'Alto Adige” establishment for the castles of Sout

The Castel forte – Trotsburg castle is situated above the entrance of Val Gardena on the eastern side above the Isarco village at 627 m. Castel forte – Trotsburg has always had a particular appeal but its real value is hidden inside. A fascinating mix between the romantic gate and the arched windows, gothic military gear and late gothic furniture that go back to the 15th – 16th century and magnificent renaissance style living rooms. Recently in three different rooms of the castle there is the permanent display “Castelli – Costruzioni della storia” (Castles – historical constructions) that gives us an insight into the development of South-Tyrolean castles.
