The Catholic parish church of St Peter and Paul in Andermatt is the most significant church in the Ursern Valley and is one of the most important houses of God in the canton of Uri.

St Peter and Paul captivates through its exceedingly lavish interior.

In 1606, four years after its construction, the parish church of St Peter and Paul succeeded St Kolumban as the parish church. St Kolumban thus became the “valley church”.

At the end of the 17th century, local Baroque architect Bartholomäus Schmid extended the parish church of St Peter and Paul. The parish church reflects his style and is splendidly fitted out inside.

The ornate main altar is the work of the famous Valais sculptor Johannes Ritz. The Baroque chapel of St Michael was built as a charnel house in 1640.
