Villa Ruzzini
Comitato Provinciale Pro Loco di Padova
Villa Badoer Michieli Ruzini (also known as Villa Ruzzini) was built at the turn of the 17th century. Its most florid period came with Domenico Ruzzini, Podestà in Brescia from 1620 and, after him, his son Marco, Procuratore of San Marco and father of the future Doge Carlo (1732). The Villa was probably decorated during the first and second decades of the 17th century.
The decor on the piano nobile is unique in this area: the hall is frescoed with a historic revocation in six episodes of an incident in 1350 from the war, involving the sea captain Marco Ruzzini. The cycle depicts a story of redemption and dignity that intended, centuries after the fact, to restore the honour of an ancestor who reportedly failed in his management of a series of events that occurred between Chalcis and Corfu.
With their frenzy of ships, battle scenes, views of Venice, and seascapes, these frescoes are a leap back in time to the era of Domenico Ruzzini in a curious, anachronistic revisitation.
