Informationen zu Pass Timmelsjoch
In 1897, the Tiroler Landtag (legislative assembly) decided to build a road over the mountain Timmel but other projects came to be realized beforehand. Only after the 2nd World War and with the Landeshauptmann (local governor) Eduard Wallnöfer it happened to become relevant again. In 1968 the road was usable in both directions and free for traffic.
Today, the road is especially liked by bikers, who enjoy the steady climb and the challenge that comes with it.
Anually, the Ötztal bike-marathon crosses the pass Timmelsjoch.
The highest, non-glaciered pass between the passes Reschenpass and Brennerpass is the Timmelsjoch. It connects the valleys Ötztal (Sölden, Austria) and Passeiertal (St. Leonhard in Passeier, Italy).
