A very curvy road with 20 hairpin curves and a length of 39 km connect the two valleys.

The pass Jaufenpass is the shortest connection from Meran to Sterzing/Vipiteno. Surrounded by the mountains Jaufenspitze (2481 m) and the Saxner (2359 m), this pass is the most northern pass through the Alps in Italy.

The pass Jaufenpass connects the valleys Passeiertal (St. Leonhard in Passeier) and Wipptal (Sterzing/Vipiteno).
