Überetsch – Oltradige’s landscape is characterised by a contrast between the gentle hills of the Etsch – Adige and the steep slopes of the ridge of the Mendel – Mendola. Überetsch – Oltradige is the region of Europe with the highest number of castles. The white wine has a fresh and fizzy taste, and the red is robust and intense.
The Überetsch-Unterland – Oltradige region owes its exceptional quality and variety of wines to the Mediterranean type climate and the nearly two thousand hours of sun a year. Kalterer – Caldaro is home to the production of a fruity and light wine that owes its name to the place where it is produced. Kalterer – Caldaro is also the name of the warmest lake in the Alps where it is possible to swim. In Caldaro the façades of the many prestigious estates and wineries create a beautiful landscape. The Mendel – Mendola mountain, is a perfect frame to this picturesque landscape.
Along the road, in the direction of Mendel – Mendola, it is impossible to miss the many forests. The road leads to Eppan – Appiano, the largest vine-growing territory of the Südtirols – Alto Adige (South Tyrol). Eppan – Appiano is also one of the territories with the most castles, thus making it the perfect place for the medieval equestrian event “Eppanner Burgenritt”, the ride between the castles of Eppan – Appiano.
The best way to discover Überetsch-Unterland – Oltradige region is to go from castle to castle. The Frühlingstal – Valle Primavera valley is enchanting and crosses the Montiggler Seen – Laghi di Monticolo lakes. The “Rastenbachklamm” gorge and the ice holes called “Eislöcher” amaze the onlookers and create fascinating scenery,
