From the car park near the Croce di Caerna we follow route 10, which runs through woods and alpine meadows to the edge of the forest with views over endless alpine meadows. The next route leads to the small Radlsee Lake and the refuge of the same name. Here you can enjoy spectacular views of the nearby Dolomites. From the refuge we continue along route 7, which takes us to the Monte del Pascolo summit. To come back we take route 10A, which leads to the uppermost huts and to the route up to the top (No. 10).
Velturno is located in a sunny position high above the Valle d’Isarco. This area had all the attributes which attracted our ancestors to to colonise it. The oldest finds discovered at Velturno date back to 5000 b.c. This interesting fact has led to the creation of an Archeopark in the Vicolo Tanz, in the village centre. Here the evidence of past eras is preserved and exhibited. The visitor can admire artefacts from the Copper, Bronze and Iron ages. There is also a display of objects dating back to Roman times and the Middle Ages. Higher up on the Monte del Pascolo summit there are traces of human activity dating back to the Bronze Age. These may have been from shepherds or hunters from the distant past. Those who reach the summit and admire the magnificent view of the Dolomites against the background of the Valle d'Isarco can understand why our ancestors ventured all the way up here.
