This high route, seven kilometres long, but straightforward, takes you through a magnificent landscape on the watershed ridge and is therefore wonderfully scenic: on one side you can admire the Vedrette di Ries Aurina mountain range and on the other side the Casies Mountains and the Austrian Defereggen mountains. In the opposite direction you can admire the Braies, Sesto, and Lienz Dolomites.

Ascent: From Dobbiaco we walk up the road to the small valley of S. Silvestro – Silvesterta, to the Stofferhaus house intersection (1,391 m, parking). Route 24 runs through the village of Frondeigen (1,626 m, hotel) first along the main road then along the path marked 24/H, going northwards up to the Golfen icecap (2,493 m) and intersection (approx. 2,500 m ; 3 hours).
The Dobbiaco High Route: Route H takes us eastwards along a ridge, then to a col (Pfanntörl, 2,511 m) and arrives near the Toblacher Pfannhorn Peak (2,663 m). Descending to a saddle (2,370 m), we then walk back up the Blankenstein ridge (2,475 m); along the watershed to reach the Marchkinkele Peak (2,545 m; 3 hours on the high route).
Descent: Route H then runs down the valley below to the Silvesteralm alpine hut (1,800 m, with refreshments; near the small sanctuary). Route 1b takes us back through the woods of Silvestertal to the car park from where we started (3 hours from the high route).
