The Rifugio Lavarella (Lavarellahütte) and Rifugio Fanes (Faneshütte) mountain huts, located near each other in the area of Fanes, are ideal starting points to climb a series of rocky peaks in Val Badia (Gadertal) Valley.

From Pederü Hotel (1,545m; access via the street from San Vigilio Marebbe (St. Vigil in Enneberg), take the wide gravel Trail No. 1, which has a moderate uphill grade, and then south to where it flattens. Note: if it’s early summer, you'll find Piciodelsee Lake here, which is usually dry during the rest of the year. Then, continue uphill until you reach the fork in the path at the Alpe Piccola di Fanes (Klein-Fanesalm) alpine pasture. From the fork, either go left towards the Rifugio Fanes (Faneshütte) mountain hut at 2,060 metres or go right towards the Rifugio Lavarella (Lavarellahütte) mountain hut at 2042 metres; neither is far; 2 hours from Pederü.  Descent: Take the same trail back; about 1.5 hours.
