Ascent: From Curon (1,520 m, by the reservoir at the top of the Val Venosta) route 4 runs up a zigzag path through larches, then across a meadow, leading to the Rossböden pastures and Lake Pedross (2,602 m; 3 hours). – High route: from the lake continue on route 4, on gentle ups and downs around a ridge, and walk along several ponds and the lakes of Gschweller- or Schwemmseen (route 7 leads up to to the beautiful hidden Lake Kapplersee.) You can easily cross the rocky south ridge of the Nauderer Hennesiegelspitze Peak, then walk downhill for 10 minutes. At an intersection continue on route 4 to walk up the gentle slopes of Mount Roter Schragen, and reach route 1 and the stream at the top of the Melag Valley (2,540 m; 5 – 6 hours from Lake Pedross). – Descent: on route 1 you walk down a steep path along a solitary crevice and the stream to the village of Melag (1,915 m; 1.5 hours). You can return by bus.
