The centre of Bolzano is the start and finish point for this challenging mountain bike tour. The trail takes you to the Kohlerer gondola lift, where the thin road up to Bauerkohlern begins. Take the lift if you want to spare yourself the 820m climb on the tarmac road. Once you arrive at the top station of the gondola in Bauernkohlern, follow the road uphill to the first hairpin and then carry straight on along the forest path towards Herrenkohlern (marked as E5). Ride through the hamlet of Herrenkohlern and follow the E5 on a forest path with some steeper ascents to the Totes Moos nature reserve. Continue heading south for 1.3km on the forest path, then turn left, keeping to the E5, and onto a technical and demanding trail. At the end, the trail opens onto a road. Go right along it for 200m and then turn left to get back onto the trail. When you arrive back on the road, turn left to the Wölfhof and continue on the road in the direction of Deutschnofen. After 500m, turn right into the little sideroad and follow it past the Gasthof Höggerhof until you reach a gate shortly after the Schadnerhof. Go past the gate and slightly downhill until you reach the proper start of the descent.
N.B.: The entry point to path no.10 is easy miss, it is a sharp right turn 800m after the gate that runs downhill steeply. The trail is around 1.3km with an average gradient of 25%, at the end you reach another forest path. Follow it through its curves for 400m, then head down the left turn and right onto path 12, which will lead you to the Steinerhöfen inns. When you reach them, turn left and follow path 11 on the old flagged path. The descent is technical and rapid at times, and it crosses the road again and again until it reaches Leifers. Continue straight through Leifers heading west until you reach the Adige cycle route. Follow it back to Bolzano.
