This itinerary starts in Naturno at the cemetery car park. The tour starts with an initial ascent, pass by the San Procolo church then turn left and after the school turn right then carry on in direction of Monte Sole (waymark). The steep asphalt road takes directly to the uphill station of the Unterstell funicular railway. From the Unterstell station carry on until the Patleid farmhouse along path N.24A that is made up of different types of terrain – sometimes downhill, sometimes flat, sometimes very steep uphill until the Inner-Unterstell farmhouse. This part of the tour will require you to manually push your bike in certain points. From the Inner-Unterstell farmhouse there are various possibilities (see variant). We still have energy to spare so we choose the Merano high path (N.24 – Attention: Hikers have “priority”) and we ride/push/carry the bike to the Kopfron farmhouse. After a brief distance on asphalt road carry on along path N.24, first downhill and then with your bike on your shoulders until you reach the Unterperfl farmhouse.
Descent: The breathtaking view of Monte S.Catarina and Schnalstal was worth the effort, from this point onwards the tour continues in descent along an asphalt road. From Monte S.Catarina keep on riding along the road that guides to Schnalstal then deviate for Naturno. Bring appropriate equipment for the tunnels. In Naturno proceed along the main road to return to the initial car park.
If you want to avoid the very technically demanding leg of this itinerary you can take the narrow downhill path at the Inner-Unterstell farmhouse. After a few bends you need to choose between carrying on towards the valley or going uphill towards the Kopfron farmhouse.
The Monte Sole does not bear this name by chance – In summer we advise you to start this tour very early to avoid the heat.
When arriving in Merano, at the roundabout turn left for Naturno town centre. Just after entering the town you will find the cemetery to the right – next to the Procolo church. There you can park for free.
With the Val Venosta train until Naturno.
