The great border ridge route guides you mostly along old military routes and paths that were built mainly during 1938 and 1942 next to the main Alpine chain in order to allow for the building and supply of the new bunker called “Vallo Alpino Littorio”. The history of this construction is very closely linked to the tragic events that took place during the second world war. If you are interested and want more detailed information you can find it on Wikipedia.
The route starts at the Colle Isarco railway station. In direction of the Val di Fleres pass by the underpass and after ca. 1 km bear right in direction of mount Gigglberg then keep going uphill.
