The downhill section follows a “Sentiero delle Leggende” (legends path), with wooden statues and illustrations alongside the path. It is recommended that the descent is taken slowly – for once – to enjoy some of the artwork. The first section of the downhill is the steepest and requires extra attention! In winter Sesto Pusteria – located in the eastern part of the Alto Adige region – is an authentic skiing paradise, while during the summer it is a beloved destination for hikers, climbers and outdoor enthusiasts. This is not surprising considering the tre cime (three peaks), a world famous mecca for climbers, is just on the doorstep. equally beautiful but slightly overshadowed by the tre cime are the Lista and croda dei toni mountains.
From the town hall of ➊ Sesto (1300 m) stay on the paved road to the church, following signage to Monte elmo; after about 2 km turn right at the fork and reach ➋ Hotel Panorama (1560 m). on a nice forest road still following waymark n. 3/Restaurant Monte elmo, proceed to ➌ Rifugio Larice (refuge 1830 m). From here follow waymark n. 136 up to the mountain station of the ➍ Monte elmo cable car, where the Monte elmo restaurant is (2060 m, highest point of the tour). the downhill runs on the Sentiero delle Leggende (legends path), waymark n. 4+2 (first section steeper), ➎ Jägerhütte (1820 m), with a descent of approximately 2 km to a fork, from there keep to the left along waymark n. 2 and reach Hotel ➏ Albergo Waldruhe (1560 m) and then follow the paved road, and descend into the valley to reach the starting point in Sesto.
