The Val di Sesto extends for 20 km and is a side valley of the Val Pusteria, stretching from San candido to Passo Monte croce comelico, partly entering the tre cime natural Park. these days the valley offers a multitude of great trails for mountain bikes. Plus, all of this is just in front of the worlds biggest natural sun dial, with a backdrop of five iconic Dolomites peaks: cima nove, cima Dieci, cima Undici, cima Dodici e cima Una.
Itinerary description
From Piazza Municipio in ➊ San candido (1175 m) head toward
the tempele shop; on a steep climb to the right follow ➋ waymark
n. 4/5 to the forest chapel and at the first ➌ intersection take a
left, at the second one ➍ keep to the right and continue up to the
➎ Albergo Waldruhe (1560 m, max. elevation). From here drop into
➏ Sesto (1300 m) along the paved road, cross the Rio di Sesto and
follow the cycle path descending into the valley towards San candi-
do. At the crossroads ➐ (also connection to the road to Sesto) take
a left and follow route n. 7 to ➑ the Bagni di San candido (thermal
baths – 1320 m); continue on and at ➒ the fork take a right on route
n.6a ➓ up to the Rifugio Baranci (1500 m). once at the ski-lift take Wa the wide and partly very steep sleigh slope (n. 6) and descend to
the valley station ⓫ of the Baranci ski-lift (1200 m); return from here
to the starting point in San candido.
