Mountain Bike itinerary on the Alpe di Siusi with panoramic view on the Dolomites

Itinerary made available by Val Gardena Marketing

The itinerary starts in Castelrotto centre in front of the church tower. For a bit of a warm up it is necessary to travel along a secondary road for a few kilometres until Tiosels. Just after Tiosels you get on the main road that guides to Val Gardena for about 5 kilometres. From Passo Pinei continue slightly downhill then follow a secondary route that takes to Bulla. The recently built tunnel allows you to travel on asphalt road, instead of the antique dirt road, that at the height of Bulla brings you back on the route. Now for a bit of pleasant uphill passing by Monte Piz and arriving in Alpe di Siusi. For a brief distance follow the road to Compaccio then return on the dirt road that passes in front of the Steger hotel – Dellai. In this segment of the itinerary the Denti di Terrarossa/Rosszähne, that are the link between Catinaccio/Rosengarten and south and the Sciliar/Schlern, dominate the route.
The Uphill-Marathon has already passed by the Panorama hotel. Over 17 kilometres with 1100 metres inclines. All uphill. Here bikers can choose between three beautiful places where they can take a well-deserved break. The Panorama hotel with its 360° view, the pleasant Laurin mountain hut where you can enjoy a splendid view on the Sciliar or the Spitzbühel mountain hut that dominates the valley.
It is necessary for you to get all the rest you can here as from the Spitzbühel parking the tour changes character completely. From now on the tour is for the Mountain Bike experts. The trail in direction of Gstatsch is narrow, technical, antique in certain points and in case of rainy weather can be very slippery.

1. Easier descent. Those who feel that the descents are too steep can “exit” at point of ways 43, 45 or 48 and descend from the Alpe di Siusi road. In any case at the height of San Valentino, at point of way 68 in the above described tour.
2. Easier tour. The tour can be shortened. It is enough, at point of path N.21, to carry straight on in direction of Compaccio. A few moments after you arrive at the Spitzbühel parking (point of way 41) where you meet with the above described tour, but you will miss all the most wonderful views of the Alpe di Siusi.
3. You can make the tour as long as you want at the height of the Alpe di Siusi. 1. After the ascent, at the height of the point of path N.20 turn left in direction of Saltria. Pass by the Tirler hotel and the Baita Rosa Alpina in direction of the Panorama hotel. At the height of the point of path 25 just before the hotel you rejoin the above described tour.
