Which bike parks and trails in Graubünden are worth a visit?

Besides the Alpenbikepark Chur, one of the best bike parks in Switzerland with five freeride trails, there are many other bike parks in the region with their own special features. Among them are other classic bike parks such as the Adventure Park in Davos and pump tracks such as the one at the Lai Barnagn swimming lake in Savognin.

You will also find one of the best mountain bike trails in the world in Graubünden: The Alps Epic Trail Davos - awarded as IMBA Epic Trail in 2014 - has everything that makes a good trail. You can reach the start on the Jakobshorn comfortably by train before speeding along the trails.

In the heart of the Swiss mountains, you will find more routes, trails and bike parks around Flims Laax Falera than in any other place in Switzerland. The mountain bike tours will take you to viewpoints worth seeing and picturesque mountain lakes and forests. The Rhine Gorge is particularly worth seeing and is known far beyond Switzerland's borders. Also known as the Grand Canyon of Switzerland, the gorge will amaze you with its steep rock faces and turquoise waters. What bike parks and trails are there in Flims Laax Falera?

Besides the large Bikepark Flims Laax with the 4 km long Nagens Enduro Trail you have the choice between two skill areas (Skill Area Bergbahnen Laax and Skill Area Bergbahnen Flims) and three pump tracks in Flims, Laax  und Schluein.

When you are on your bike around Grindelwald, you will always have the impressive triumvirate of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau in view. Especially on a tour up the popular Kleine Scheidegg you have a great view of the mighty Eiger north face. On the medium-difficulty route, forest paths alternate with steep passages and tight bends. You can also complete parts of the route comfortably with the well-known cogwheel railway to the Jungfraujoch. A real challenge is the Grütsch Trail on the Grütschalp. The freeride trail covers around 600 metres of altitude and is peppered with demanding flow sections that guarantee you riding fun. 

The Disentis Sedrun region in the canton of Graubünden has transformed itself from a pure hiking area into a popular mountain bike destination. In addition to the 300 km network of spectacular routes, bike parks and bike-friendly accommodation in the rustic villages await you here. One of the most spectacular tours in the region is the Best of Disentis Sedrun with a total ascent of 1960 metres. No wish is left unfulfilled on the 53.3 km long loop: Action-packed trails alternate with quiet valley roads, reservoirs worth seeing and two cable car rides. In between there are various places to stop if you need a break from your mountain bike.

The tour from Tschamut to Disentis is much easier and suitable for families. The almost 17 km run mainly on less demanding, wide paths. In Selva you cross the Rhine and shortly afterwards pass the bathing lake Lag da Claus. At the Catrina Skills Park in Disentis you can prepare yourself for the mountain bike tours.

Beginner, intermediate and professional bikers will find drops, steep curves, jumps and waves on four different routes.

In the French-speaking canton of Valais in the south-west of Switzerland you will find an excellent infrastructure for your mountain bike holiday. Numerous perfectly signposted routes, mountain railways in Hülle and Fülle and no less than six bike parks leave nothing to be desired. One of the most popular places in the Valais for mountain bikers is the town of Leukerbad. This is where the first stage of the Valais Alpine Bike, one of the most popular mountain bike tours in the Valais, ends. From here, the following stage continues to Unterbäch. In between, you can recover from your exertions in the 10 B&Bs of Leukerbad.

The mountain range of the same name in the canton of Jura offers perfect conditions for varied MTB routes. In the north-west of Switzerland on the border with France, there is a network of almost 2,000 km of trails of all levels of difficulty. The Chasseral is a popular destination for mountain bikers: the highest peak in the Jura is also known as the King of the Jura. One variant of climbing the Chasseral by mountain bike is the tour with start and finish in Biel, which requires a certain amount of fitness and technical skills, but also rewards you with great views.

The Swiss Bike Park Oberried is the largest bike park in Switzerland, located in the canton of Jura. On an area of 30,000 m² you will find everything your mountain biker's heart desires - and with free admission. The StonePit Holderbank bike park is aimed at beginners and advanced bikers and was created by Swiss mountain biker Patrick Schärer.

Around the densely wooded city of Winterthur you have over 100 MTB trails to choose from. On the extensive  hilly landscapes you will find both challenging single trails and flow trails. On the rapid descents down into the valley, you will repeatedly pass viewpoints worth seeing with a view of the Zürich Oberland. You will also come across historic castles and rivers along the way again and again.

What are the most popular mountain bike tours around Winterthur?

One of the highlights is the 130 km long Hörnli bike route: After starting at the station in Winterthur, you ride along the Töss through the rural area on the first stage. At the Hulftegg you cross the pass between the Zurich Oberland and Toggenburg. The round trip up Winterthur's local mountain, the Eschenberg, is also worthwhile.
